Travis Dougherty has resided in the District since 2004 when he attended and graduated from Gallaudet University with a Bachelors in Communications Studies, and American University with a Masters in Media Entrepreneurship. Travis has worked in a variety of different capacities through employment development, advocacy, sales, customer services, regulatory, marketing, and management in the nonprofit, private, and government sectors. Travis has started up several companies and consulted companies in DC. He was appointed by former Mayor Vincent Gray to serve on the Innovation, Technology, and Inclusion Council under the Executive Office of the DC Mayor. However, he was already involved in DC politics before being a part of the Council. He served as Member-at-Large, Vice President, and then as President of the DC Association of the Deaf (DCAD). In his current role, Travis works as the Maryland Relay Manager with the Maryland Department of Disabilities, where he oversees the statewide telecommunications access services for the deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing communities. He was elected as a Member-At-Large with the National Association of State Relay Administrators and is serving as an appointed member of the Federal Communications Commission’s Disability Advisory Committee.
