Akinyemi Benjo is Co-Lead of the Federal Disability Workforce Consortium (FDWC) since 2005 and Policy Advisor with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP). In this capacity he examines the issues facing employers as they seek to recruit and hire people with disabilities and works to shape disability employment policies that meet the needs of employers and employees. He monitors and evaluates disability employment laws and collaborates on developing initiatives that advance the Federal government as a model employer. Mr. Banjo’s work experience in disability field includes positions in both the public and non profits sectors. Before joining ODEP, he worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where he coordinated treatment, counseling, training and employment services for disabled veterans to facilitate their employment. Prior to that, he was with the Maryland State’s Department of Education, Division of Rehabilitation Services also as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. Before that, he served as a Lead Coordinator and Disability Specialist for a Center for Developmental Disabilities in Hicksville, NY.
Mr. Banjo is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. He received his Master’s of Science degree in Education with a concentration in rehabilitation counseling from Hofstra University, New York. He also holds a Master’s of Education degree in adult education from the University of Lagos, Nigeria.
